Rift Valley Volcano Tour
2nd of February 2023 was one of the best Rift Valley days. Too much lift with 4600 m cloudbase, despite the proper rain in Naivasha yesterday. This rain kind of refreshed the atmosphere because above 3500 it was becoming significantly colder and the clouds were pretty active. The previous day Yassen was sucked inside a congestus cloud up to 6200 meter, heavily icing his paraglider.
We took off from Kijabe and climbed pretty easily to the cloudbase, sometimes with 5.5 m/s average climbs. Then we moved over Longonot volcano were the Universe reminded us about its General Balance Law with -6.6 m/s sink, straight in the middle of the crater. It was pretty active with northerly winds coming from Naivasha lake. Still, we managed some good shots before moving to the next volcano crater of Mt Suswa. The powerful clouds above us and the hypnotizing 1.5 km high dust devils below us gave a special feeling. The air was safe, but just the the scale, the twist, the might was more than impressive … making you feel small, naturally humble and at the same time thankful to be part of this beautiful world…
After Suswa photo session I continued and landed in Narok:
