With the advancement of dry season Kijabe gets more blown off by the falling North Easterly winds, so moving to the opposite west bank of Rift Valley is a logical choice. Winds there, at Goi Goi and Maiela, are often parallel to the escarpment, but with good forecasting and timing it can be a great paragliding arena. Flights towards Narok (50 km SSW) or Eburu (30 km N) are relatively easy, but the interesting stuff are the highlands behind, where mountain gradually descends from 2800 m msl to Masai Mara plains (80 km SW). The highlands often overdevelop, so picking a drier day with lighter winds and higher cloud base is essential. Retrieves can be long, but plenty of landings and roads…
The start of cross-country flights should be conservative, especially at second and third thermals where you need maximum height for the fiollowing glides along the descending terrain. After you reach the cloud streets and the convergence hot spots you can enjoy easy rides at 5000 m msl and continue further west. Before Bonet (100 km W) winds can still be strong, but shortly after they meet the lake Victoria breeze and both transform into powerful convergence, which often produce shadows and rain at the end of the day.
